DEPARTMENT GEARS UP FOR EMERGENCY PLANNING ‘SHOWCASE’

Deputies with the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad are preparing for Wednesday’s Local Emergency Planning Committee Emergency Response Showcase, which will take place from 8 a.m. to noon at the Doña Ana Community College East Mesa Campus at 2800 Sonoma Ranch Boulevard.
The event is an opportunity for the public to see how Doña Ana County first-responders stand ready in the event of a natural or manmade disaster. Emergency vehicles and first-response units will be staged in the northeast parking lot for the public to see during the Showcase.

The Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad is the only division of its kind in the county that utilizes robot technology to investigate or mitigate potentially life-threatening circumstances. It is most often used to determine whether or not suspicious materials are explosive, or to negotiate with suspects during hostage situations.

The event is free and open to the public.
