Kim Hakes of Las Cruces has been appointed by Gov. Susana Martinez to the Dona Ana County Commission, representing District 5. His appointment was made effective March 13, 2018, and runs through the 2018 general election. If he wins election in 2018, he will serve through Dec. 31, 2020. He will be eligible to seek re-election. Hakes fills the vacant seat created by the resignation of John Vasquez. Hakes, a Republican, retired from Citizens Bank in Las Cruces in 2015. He is also a veteran of the United States Army. A graduate of Brigham Young University, he also earned a Master of Business Administration from Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona.
