The New Mexico Drug Abuse Resistance and Education (D.A.R.E.) Officers’ Association is accepting applications for a position on its Youth Advisory Board.

Applicants must be either freshmen or sophomores in high school at the time of selection and must be graduates of either an elementary or middle school D.A.R.E. program. In addition, candidates must also have a history of demonstrated academic achievement, be articulate and comfortable with public speaking and cannot be related to any current D.A.R.E. officers.

The Youth Advisory representative will work with other board members on media relations and special committees, and will serve as a role model and public speaker at D.A.R.E. functions across New Mexico and at the national conference at the Quantico Marine Base in the Washington, D.C. area.

 Application forms can be picked up at the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office, 845 N. Motel Boulevard in Las Cruces. In addition to the application, interested candidates must also write a one-page essay detailing their interests and qualifications for the position.
