Two men were arrested early Wednesday morning after shoe prints led Doña Ana County Sheriff’s deputies to the alleged burglars.

At approximately 10:45 p.m. on April 9, the victim, who lives in the 3800 block of Calle de las Margaritas, called 911 after she returned to her home and found it had been broken into. The victim told deputies a lock box had been taken from the home, which contained a small amount of cash and some jewelry.

The responding deputy followed footprints from the victim’s home to a mobile home nearby in the 800 block of Watson Lane. After getting permission to search the home from the homeowner, the deputy discovered the alleged stolen property described by the victim in one of the bedrooms. Two pairs of shoes were also found in the home, reportedly matching the shoe prints outside the victim’s home.

Deputies arrested the homeowner, 19-year-old Donavin Reeves. During questioning, Reeves reportedly said he was with Saul Ramirez, Jr., 24, who was later questioned and arrested.

Both Reeves and Ramirez were booked into the Doña Ana County Detention Center, charged with burglary of a dwelling, conspiracy to commit a fourth-degree felony and receiving stolen property.

Reeves is being held on a $10,000 surety bond. Ramirez, who was on probation and parole at the time of his arrest, is being held without bond.
