Decedents Search
The responsibility of Doña Ana County, under state statute Chapter 24, Article 13 NMSA 1978, is to decently inter or cremate the body of any unclaimed decedent or indigent person.
This program does not assist with funeral expenses/donations, viewing or any other service at the funeral home or place of worship.
After a period of two years, Doña Ana County, will provide a final disposition for unclaimed cremains through a memorial burial service. The public burials are held annually at a local cemetery where all are welcome to attend.
Doña Ana County manages unclaimed cremains that are available to be claimed.

The claimant must reimburse Doña Ana County $600.00 for the cremains. The amount must be paid prior to the release of cremains. ONLY a Money Order or Cashier’s Check payable to Doña County will be accepted. (Cash, personal check or credit card payments cannot be accepted for payment).
