Doña Ana County, New Mexico seeks seasoned management professionals to apply for the County Manager position.   This is an exceptional opportunity to provide leadership and management to the County organization as it grows and develops for the future. 

Doña Ana County is one of 33 counties in the State of New Mexico. Created in 1852, it is the second-most populated county in the State. The County seat, Las Cruces, has been ranked as one of the fastest-growing communities in the United States in the past decade.

Located in southern New Mexico in the Mesilla Valley with the Rio Grande River flowing through it from north to south and the Organ Mountains along its eastern edge, Doña Ana County has an estimated population of 213,000, dispersed over 3,800 square miles and lies just northwest of El Paso. The region has more than one million residents making it the 58th largest metro area in the U.S.  The County seat is Las Cruces - the second-largest City in the State with a population of over 102,000.

The Doña Ana County Manager is selected by and reports to the Board of County Commissioners and is responsible for the administration of all County affairs.  The responsibilities include but are not limited to the administration of all organizational units placed in the County Manager’s charge by the County Code and by ordinance. 

The County is governed by the five-member Board of Commissioners.  The County Manager is responsible for overseeing the County’s 900 employees, except for five elected officials: County Assessor, County Clerk, County Probate Judge, County Sherriff, and the County Treasurer.  Doña Ana County provides a full range of traditional county and municipal services.

The minimum qualifications for the positions include a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Business Administration, Public Administration or a closely related field and five years of experience as a local government manager (department director or higher) or eight years of directly related experience.  The successful candidate will also have experience supervising a diverse workforce with direct supervision of a similar workforce desired.  Experience with public financing and managing large budgets is also desired.

The salary for the County Manager will be market competitive and is dependent upon the qualifications and experience of the selected individual.  In addition, Doña Ana County offers an excellent, comprehensive benefits package.
