The Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley will conduct two pet adoption events this weekend. Available for adoption will be dogs, puppies, cats and kittens.

Adoptions will take place from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 17, at the Farmer’s Market in downtown Las Cruces.

Adoption fees are $75 for dogs/ puppies and $50 for cats/kittens. The fee includes the first set of vaccinations, spay/neuter and microchip.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 17, adoptions also will be facilitated at Pet’s Barn, 1600 S. Valley Dr., in Las Cruces.

At the Pet’s Barn event, microchipping for pets that already have homes will be available to the public for $20, and city pet licenses will be available to neutered pets for $5 each. Licenses for unneutered pets are $25 each. Proof of spay/neuter is required before a $5 license will be issued. Pet owners also must bring current proof of rabies vaccination for each animal to be licensed.

In other companion-animal news, the Humane Society of Southern New Mexico will host its annual members and friends meeting Saturday, July 17, from 3-5 p.m. at Encantada Park Community Center/Club House, 1000 Coyote Drive, in Las Cruces. Betty Hoover, executive director of the Humane Society of El Paso will be the featured speaker on the topic of “A No-Kill Agency.” Nominations and election of officers will be part of the evening events. Dinner will follow the program.
