Each year, hundreds of names of officers killed in the line of duty are engraved on the walls of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC. These names are then read aloud during the annual Candlelight Vigil to memorialize those who made the ultimate sacrifice. This year, Constable Aniceto Montoya from the Doña Ana County Sheriff's Office will be included.
Aniceto Montoya was a Constable for the township of La Luz, New Mexico when it was still part of Doña Ana County, before the creation of Otero County. Montoya was killed on April 28, 1876 while responding to a disturbance. To watch the live stream of the 2023 event, please visit: www.nleomf.org/vigil
