Shannon Reynolds won the election to a second term as the District 3 County Commissioner in November of 2022. He took office on Jan. 1, 2019, and he will now serve until December 31, 2026.
District 3 encompasses a large sector of southeastern Doña Ana County including Las Alturas, Telshor, Foothills, the Talavera, and University Hills neighborhoods, NMSU, White Sands Missile Range, Fort Bliss (in Doña Ana County), Chaparral and Tortugas.
Commissioner Reynolds is a US Air Force Vietnam Era USAF Veteran, 1975-1979. He holds a General Engineering Degree from the University of Illinois (Class of 1981). He was also a Teaching Assistant at the University of Illinois and a Physics Lab Assistant at Parkland College.
Commissioner Reynolds has more than 40 years of industry management and training experience, to call on in making decisions and guidance to the county. He worked at IBM from 1981 to 1993 as Manufacturing Engineer, Partner Systems Engineer, AIX Instructor and 3rd level AIX Support. He also spent three years in Las Cruces, New Mexico working for IBM, as Academic Information Systems Engineer from 1987-1990. He worked for Novell, Inc. assisting partners sell Unixware solutions from 1993-1997. Then, in 1997 he worked as a Sales Manager, District Manager and Partner Technical Manager at EMC Corp., until 2009, when he retired.
He also served as City Councilman for Milford, Ohio, from 2004 to 2006. Later, he served as International Student Exchange Director for Cincinnati Public Schools’ Taiwan Student Exchange Program, from 2013 to 2015.
He garnered various awards for teaching in Switzerland, Great Britain, Germany, Mexico and major cities throughout the United States and Canada. Commissioner Reynolds holds the following certifications: NM Edge Certified Public Official, NM Edge Certified County Commissioner, and NM Edge Certification in Advocate for Public Ethics. He has also completed the NM EDGE Supervisor Certification class work.
Commissioner Reynolds worked with NM EDGE to revise the Commissioners Handbook in the fall of 2022.
