Public Improvement Districts (Chapter 5 - Municipalities and Counties (2006) - NMOneSource.com)

The Public Improvement District (PID) Act, passed in 2001, establishes a method for municipalities and counties to create tax levies for creating, financing, and constructing necessary public improvements within the State of New Mexico (Chapter 305, Laws 2001). These include sewage treatment, water, streets, libraries, and/or other public sites within a selected site (5-11-2 Definitions Section P). Chapter 5, sections 11 to 27 describe how a PID is created starting with a resolution, a hearing, and an election by property owners and/or qualified electors. If approved a special levy shall be imposed and recorded in the Doña Ana County Clerk’s Office.

Who are affected?

The following subdivisions are affected, and levies are applied once the Doña Ana County Assessor is notified. Please see the Clerk’s site here for resolutions. Please note this only applies to properties with improvements, not vacant land.
