Help your Community. Apply here to become a Volunteer Firefighter

Doña Ana County's Fire & Rescue Department is actively recruiting professionals who want to be part of a growing and progressive department committed to providing quality customer service. Volunteer firefighters respond to calls for help on fires, medical emergencies, natural disasters and others. They also participate in community events and promote the prevention of fire and other emergencies.

Becoming a volunteer firefighter is a challenging, exciting and rewarding way for self-improvement and serve your community.  We have a wide variety of opportunities for training and advancement.

We have the tools and will teach you the skills.

You must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid New Mexico or Texas driver’s license. Complete an application and bring it to our office or drop it off at your local fire station.

As a New Mexico Volunteer Firefighter, you may be eligible to receive a pension from the Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA). Qualifying members can receive $250 per month or $125 per month upon meeting requirements. Download the Volunteer Firefighter Brochure, or for additional information visit nmpera.org.
